With my job I work somewhat closely with school administrators because one has to be present at every meeting I go to. Growing up I never really knew what assistant principals did because I didn't get in trouble at school. I'm glad I'm not an administrator and don't have to deal with student behavior problems! It's strange now working in schools because I have a teacher perspective instead of the student perspective.
There was one time that I did get sent to the principal's office in elementary school. And let me tell you, I was traumatized by it because that didn't happen to me. Ever. And I don't even know if this time really even counted because it wasn't my fault.
Like I said, I was in elementary school. This was after I moved to Utah, so I was in grade 4, 5, or 6... but I don't remember which grade exactly. It was lunch time and the menu for the day was potato bar. I, of course, did not buy school lunch that day because approximately 99% of my school career I had to bring a lunch from home (I'm not bitter). I sat down at the lunch table and a few minutes later there was some commotion. I turned around and was shocked to find that girls at my table had smeared gooey cheese down another girl's hair at the table behind ours. And stuck chunks of ham in there just to make it look nice. This girl had long hair clear down to her waist and they pretty much covered it all!
Since I was sitting at the suspects' table, I had to go to the principal's office with everyone at the table. I remember him saying we could either be suspended for a half-day or we could apologize to this poor girl. That seemed like an obvious choice to me!
We apologized... and that was the extent of my behavior record in school!
