I've never been seriously injured ...knock on wood! I've never had stitches, a broken bone, a sprained ankle, never been in an emergency room. Well... I did have my wisdom teeth out, but those stitches were for a different reason than what I'm talking about now.
Although I've never had any of these myself, I'm sorry to say I've inflicted stitches on someone else. Here's the story.
I think I was maybe 8 years old and my family was in Sedona, Arizona for our every-other-year Dahl reunion. (Disclaimer: I am basing this on my somewhat vague memory of the event, so for those who were there, feel free to fill in any details!) Okay, so there was a little stream that ran behind our condos that we kids liked to play in. My older sister Lori was standing on a bridge over the water, watching us throw rocks under the bridge. Do you see where this is going? I picked up a rock, threw the rock, but my aim was definitely off. Instead of going under the bridge, I threw the rock over the bridge and straight for my sister's shin. I remember Lori being okay until she looked down and saw her leg bleeding, which was when she freaked out and started crying. She had to go to the hospital and get stitches, and I'm pretty sure she wasn't very happy with me.
I felt guilty about this for years, especially because I was teased and reminded of this accident many times. So Lori I hope you've recovered and your scar isn't too noticeable anymore... and I hope I don't make a similar mistake again!

Natalie, I'm proud of you for admitting to this :) For many years it was just known as an "accident" and no one "knew" who threw the rock :) But I totally forgive you because it really was just an accident.
The weird thing about getting a cut on my shin was that there actually wasn't any blood. The skin just popped open and I think I could see to the bone (or maybe my shocked mind saw that). But it was all part of the Sedona experience. Oh, and to date I've still never been on Slide Rock (either because of injury or it's been closed).
Did you honestly not know it was me who threw the rock? That's kind of funny! I've never been on Slide Rock either... but just because I think I was too afraid to ride it when I was little.
