My Poor Dad

I think most people have heard about this, but I'm also just writing it for my own journal purposes. And since I'm here in California, this story is what I have pieced together from talking with my mom and siblings, so hopefully it's accurate!

On Monday, while my dad was taking the Christmas lights off the house, the ladder he was on slid backwards and he fell down with it onto the driveway. He broke his left wrist and his hip (I think technically his femur bone, but the break is up into his hip so the doctors are saying it's his hip). He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance and the doctor said he would need surgery. He couldn't have surgery right then because he didn't have an empty stomach and the surgeon wasn't available, so he had to wait until Tuesday afternoon.

The surgery was long, but everything went well on Tuesday. He had a plate put into his wrist, and a rod and two pins into his hip. I think the doctors were hoping to send him home 2 or 3 days after surgery, but I talked to my mom yesterday and she said they will be releasing him (today I think) to a rehab facility where he will receive some physical therapy and occupational therapy. Because the surgery was on such a major part of his body (his leg), he lost some blood, so he is slowly getting more blood pumped into him. Once this happens he will probably get his strength back enough to be able to move around and will hopefully get to go back home!

I'm sure he will have to get used to taking it easy while recovering and not being able to run or be his usual busy self. I've heard he's had a lot of visitors which I'm sure he is grateful for. My mom says he's very optimistic and not discouraged... I definitely would be!
