Life Flight

Today something very out of the ordinary happened! I was sitting at home, reading on the couch, and I heard a helicopter fly over the house. I thought to myself that the helicopter sounded like it was flying pretty low, but kept on reading. After a little while, I noticed that I could still hear the helicopter, so I opened the front door, expecting to see a military helicopter flying by or something. But actually it was a LifeFlight helicopter landing at the park across the street from my parents' house! I yelled for my family to come outside, and we immediately started walking over to the park. I didn't have shoes on and we noticed later that we left the front door wide open! I guess we were too preoccupied with wondering what was happening at the park. And in the rush of it all, we all forgot our cameras and cell phones, so I don't have any pictures of the event. Oh well. **UPDATED** My dad just got an email from a guy in the neighborhood who took a bunch of pictures of the excitement, so the picture above is from him!

We were one of the first people over there, but soon at least 50 people started to gather to see what was happening. The helicopter had landed on the big field, and apparently the EMTs were waiting for the ambulance to arrive. I guess a few blocks over a man was pruning his tree and fell off a ladder and hit his head on the concrete. They blocked off the intersection closest to his house, but it was too windy today to safely land the helicopter there, so it landed a few blocks away at the park. We were all nervous for the ambulance to arrive because we didn't know if we would know the patient inside, but luckily we didn't know him. I just hope he will be okay!

The craziest part of this was when the helicopter got ready to take off. We were standing about 50 yards from it, and the wind created from the propellers was incredible! It was definitely the strongest wind I've ever been in... it was hard to stand up in it. As we were leaving, we heard a little 3-year-old boy say "That was AWESOME!" That will be something I'm sure he will never forget... neither will I!
