Made My Day

Today at work I was walking with one of my 3rd graders to my room, and he suddenly said he had to go back to his class to get something.  He wouldn't tell me what it was, but I told him he could go if he hurried.  A few minutes later he ran into my room breathing hard (he followed my directions and hurried!) holding something behind his back.  He pulled it out looking kind of bashful and handed me a card with "Miss Doll" on the front.  I opened it up and it was an invitation to his 9th birthday party on Sunday!  I thought this was the cutest thing and it TOTALLY made my day.  I thanked him for the invitation but said I couldn't make it.  He was beaming and seemed so happy that he had at least invited me!

I also share my room with an afterschool program, so once the bell rings my classroom is instantly full of kids.  Today I was busy typing reports on my computer and a little girl (maybe 10 years old) came up to me, seeming very interested in my job:
Girl: "Whatcha doing?"
Me: "Just busy trying to do my work."
Girl: "You typed all of that??" {Looking at my computer screen}
Me: "Yep!"
Girl: "Are your fingers super tired?"
Me: "No... I've practiced typing a lot, so my fingers are used to it."
Girl: "Do you type all day long?"
Me: "No, I also see kids and we work on their speech and ways they can talk better.  Sometimes I go to meetings too."
Girl: "WOW. You must be SO tired when you go home."

I'm glad somebody recognizes the work that I do... even if it is a 10-year-old girl!

Haha. I love it! Little kids are so cute. I'm pretty sure my sister invited a teacher or two to her birthday party one year. None came, but one did come to her baptism... That was pretty cool. You probably made the right choice.. :) (especially since it was on a Sunday)
